After the porter spun our luggage rack and smashed my husband’s laptop on the driveway [true, and a whole other story… 😳] we had a wonderful stay at the Sheraton Maui.
We began most of our mornings at the Black Rock Kitchen, enjoying an excellent breakfast buffet sitting outside turning our faces towards warm island breezes. The fruit was fresh, the options were plentiful and the make-your-own-waffle setup was second to none.
The resort and its grounds are just beautiful. It’s bi-ig and it would take us 5-10 minutes to walk from the restaurant to our room.
So, all of that is great but now we should talk about the sea turtles. Right out the front of the resort and right on the shoreline, on gorgeous and dramatic Kaanapali Beach, swim the honu [sea turtles]. They’re tame and do not hesitate to swim to you, so it’s up to you to retain the distance as required by Hawaiian law. I stood in hip-deep water and suddenly realised two sea turtles were playing tag and swimming in circles around me! They’re absolutely beautiful creatures and meeting them will exceed your vacation expectations.
We really enjoying the nightly torch lighting and cliff dive ceremony at Pu’u Keka’a [Black Rock]. This ceremony has been a time honored tradition dating back to the legendary leap of Chief Kahekili and we would watch each night from the Cliff Dive Grill or the Mai Tai Bar over after hula dancing and live music.
