We visited the Sofitel for a family wedding in November and enjoyed and a few days in paradise.
Check in was a little slow and confused. Although we’d emailed asking for our booking of three rooms made together and at the same time in the same email be located close together there were two side by side and one at the extreme opposite end of the resort, leaving us a 5-10 minute walk from one of my brothers. Some aspects of the resort are a little tired (the bathroom springs to mind) but the rooms overall are really well appointed and very comfortable and I really loved the Pure Fiji products! We booked a Superior Room Oceanside and had a gorgeous view over the gardens, and in the further distance, the ocean. My only gripe with the room was how much noise is allowed in from the outside. On one day a family or large group of people left the resort at about 5am (must have been departing) and they yelled (really yelled) from one end of the hallway to the other about things they’d forgotten, might have forgotten, etc – it was awful and the noise was so loud and clear, like they were in bed next to me! This is more the negligence of other guests rather than the fault of the Sofitel.
Our rate did not include entry into the Waitui Beach Club but we decided to pay for entry on one day of our visit. It’s worth the money and absolutely beautiful inside this adults only area. I was disappointed upon asking for a fresh coconut ‘we don’t have any’ and when I asked about the Veuve at the swim up bar I was advised it is served in a regular clear plastic champagne tumbler – the Sofitel’s social media sites would have you believe this expensive beverage is served in the iconic orange cup (might seem petty but at FJ$60 per glass, it’s all part of the experience.) Service was otherwise excellent in the Beach Club and the fresh juice with breakfast was divine.
And this is not an issue for everyone but we work even when we travel so I can tell you the WiFi is truly terrible, even when we paid to upgrade it. Sometimes it worked… and sometimes it didn’t!!
The main pool is fantastic. It’s so big with lots of little nooks here and there and good service from staff. We ate at the restaurant near the pool, Salt and it was enjoyable. The ambiance right on the beach is lovely.
The coffee at La Parisienne was unexpectedly good – highly recommend! And we really enjoyed sitting in the Breeze Bar for a pre or post dinner drink, absolutely beautiful view with nice live music and great service from staff.
We enjoyed the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa (especially those breakfast mimosas at the Lagoon restaurant!) and hope to return one day – we’ll be staying in one of the Beach Club access rooms then!
