Sleepover in Kahuku: Turtle Bay Resort

I have always wanted to stay in the North Shore’s Turtle Bay Resort. We had one night pre cruise to fill and we decided to book Turtle Bay. It is expensive but it is amazing!

We arrived early, as that awful Jetstar flight is wont to do, and headed straight for the North Shore. We stopped first at Coffee Gallery where we ordered the ‘Aloha’ blend (when in Rome) with an acai bowl (me) and a breakfast burrito (husband.) Having satiated the hunger that always comes after a long haul Jetstar flight (and we had opted for the food – don’t ask) we headed further north to Kahuku. We pre registered as it was still early and dropped our bags before changing and then driving slightly south again to Waimea. We took on the short walk up to Waimea Falls which was just beautiful but at the top it was extremely busy and we were required to rent a life jacket to swim in the (already packed) falls. We chose just to admire for a little while then made our way back down and across the road to the beach where we soaked the flight off in the beautiful sea water for a good long time – perfection.

Around 2:30pm we headed back to Turtle Bay Resort where we completed check in and were given our room key. I have to hand it to them, we booked the cheapest room in the place (still obviously expensive) and were treated fantastically. After checking out our gorgeous large ocean view room we headed down to the pool for some lunch and a poolside beer/cocktails which is where we spent the rest of our afternoon.

We dragged ourselves away to get ready for Todd’s birthday dinner, pre-booked at Ola’s which is the only restaurant located on the sand in Oahu! We had an amazing night, the first time I have eaten something other than fish and chips on the sand! I had the butterfish and I would recommend it. We rounded out with a nightcap at Surfer, The Bar.

That night I set the alarm for 7am but the long flight/missed night’s sleep/jet lag caught up with us. I think the alarm went off but I am not sure, in my hazy state I must have switched it off. Anyway, I woke up very refreshed at about 9am. We threw on some clothes and made our way down to the Kula Grille for breakfast as it was included in our accommodation rate. The buffet was amazing, definitely book the included breakfast if you are able to. At our time of booking it was only $20 more than the standard room rate so we ate like kings for only $10 apiece. We were very sad to be departing Turtle Bay after a really amazing stay and we will definitely be back. One day!
